Fulham for me just brings back those bad memories from the 2018 play off final. Previous to 2018 I had no ill feeling towards Fulham at all. In fact, it’s a great away day by the Thames, but I can’t now see them on TV without thinking about that horrible day.
As the sun set on that glorious day at Wembley and the weeks passed by, I admit that like many fellow Villa fans I allowed myself to dream of what we might be able to achieve as signing after signing was coming through the front door at Bodymoor Heath, and the optimism swirled around Villa Park.
I’ll level with you – I didn’t expect anything from this match.
However, as the clock ticks past 11:30 and the teams are announced… Wow is that two up top? Is my reaction. With the position Villa are in, we need to win games, to win games we need to score goals, so I was pleased with the option of two strikers.
As match-day going Villa fans start to get their heads around watching their beloved team from the comfort of the armchair, I thought it was an appropriate time for some fan reflection on what we’re about to experience.
