(Pre)mier League

Villa are in fine form going into their final pre season friendly.

It’s been a very busy summer down Villa Park in preparations for our Premier League return; new signings, players released, 30,000 season tickets sold and a perfect run of form in friendlies so far.

I for one am very excited at the prospect of having Premier League football back at Villa Park, back where we belong, the sleeping giant, finally awake.

Since Wembley success back in May, we have seen a lot of changes taking place, with exciting new transfers arriving at B6, but we are also saying goodbye to some very familiar faces of the claret and blue.

Glenn Whelan was instrumental towards the end of the last campaign, ecstatic chants of “Whelo, Whelo,” would ring out from the Villa faithful as a fans favourite emerged. Axel Tuanzebe returns to Manchester United after being a feature at the heart of our defence in what was a very successful loan spell.

Whatever your opinion on Alan Hutton, one thing is for sure….. that goal in front of the Holte End will put him in the history books and install a place for him in every Villains heart.

We bid farewell to many others too, Albert Adomah is another player who moves on, Mile Jedinak, Tommy Elphick, Richie De Laet, Mark Bunn, Ross McCormack and Micah Richards all exit in what is turning into a total rebuild, as we prepare to take on the countries finest opposition.

Wesley, Mings, Luis, Targett, Konsa, Trezeguet, El ghazi, Hause, Engels and Jota are the reason Villa are top of the league, well transfer league anyway. With the spending well over £100 million we are certainly showing our intent on staying where we belong.

Refreshing my Twitter feed and googling players seems to have taken up most of my days this summer. Everyday there has been ‘new news,’ transfer talk, speculation, done deals, ‘In The Knows,’ medicals, announcements… its been hard to keep up with. Ten new faces have arrived and we don’t seem to be done at that, it will surely be an entertaining last two weeks in this transfer window. Keep refreshing that feed!

Can you choose a stand out performer so far? Wesley and Jota seem to be creating a very close bond, Trezeguet will be frightening teams for fun this season I have no doubt. One player I have tipped for Premier League success is Ezri Konsa. The man who arrived from Brentford for £12million pounds. Smith is so impressed by Konsa that he has signed him twice, a young exciting ‘modern day,’ centre half who will rise to the top of his game and be a stand out for Aston Villa I have no doubt.

Doing a Fulham? I think not. Dean Smith has been very particular with his summer signings. Young players with huge potential has been the main emphasis, but more importantly, players that fit the system and profile that he has created at Villa since taking over his boyhood club.

And looking at the run of form Villa have shown this pre season we can clearly see that the players are indeed settling in well. Excellent patterns of play and plenty of chances created, 13 goals in 4 games so far as we take an unbeaten run into the final friendly next weekend to RB Leipzig.

So I ask you my fellow Villains, are you impressed so far? What would be a satisfying season? Do we need anymore new faces?

One thing is for sure, Villa Park will be rocking week in week out as we hit an all time high in season ticket sales, a sell out every week with an electric atmosphere is certainly on the cards.

The fans will play there part this season and I have no doubt what so ever that the players will do the same!
